I recently read a thought-provoking phrase by social commentator Chris Brogan: “the erosion of patience.” He was talking about how FAST we all want what we want, and how easily the Internet leads us into thinking the other person should just deliver it now!
To save yourself from anger and frustration, set a time frame when you ask for something, and see if the other person agrees. (“Could you get me your comments on this draft by 10AM tomorrow?” as opposed to, “Please comment.”)
Being clear about what you hope for/expect gives the other person a chance to say “yes,” “no,” or “maybe” — and gives you a reality check that might help slow your erosion of patience!
