Do you love your business or profession? Do you believe that what you do is important? Do you enjoy sharing what you know with other people?
If so, then you’re ready to become a GREAT public speaker!
As President of Speak Up for Success, and one of New York City’s premier public speaking coaches, I have helped hundreds of people build their business, promote their passion, or maximize their careers through great public speaking.
Public Speaking Coaching: Who I Work With and What They Do
My ideal public speaking client is a professional or business man or woman who’s passionate about their work and loves to share what they know. He or she may not be a “platform superstar” — yet! — but they have a drive to become the best communicator they can be, and are willing to do the work to get there.
These people come from a range of disciplines. A university dean… an aviation attorney… a systems integrator… an Irish fiddler. The nature of your work doesn’t matter; what matters is your willingness — your eagerness — to let the world know why it’s important!
My clients have delivered major international talks, headlined academic conferences, spoken at sales conventions, and appeared before audiences numbering in the thousands. They’ve also used their public speaking skills to win over non-profit boards and management committees, to court major clients, and to handle difficult conversations. No public speaking situation is too large, or too small, to benefit from the personal, growth-oriented coaching I provide.
The Starting Point for Public Speaking Training: How You Talk
Every successful adult has spent a lifetime having conversations. We talk to our friends, our lovers, our family members, our colleagues, our clients, our customers, and often, to complete strangers. After a lifetime of talking, each of us has developed a unique and effective conversation style.
As a keynote speaker coach, I will show you how to take your personal speaking style and make it into a public speaking style. I will teach you how to address an audience of thousands (or one VIP) with the same comfort, confidence and ease that you feel when you talk to your best friend.
I’ll also show you how to amplify the effective parts of your conversation style, and leave behind bad habits that work against you. Knowing what to keep, what to lose and what to develop, you’ll be able to continue building a great public speaking time with every conversation, and every presentation.
Fine-Tuning Your Speech: The Key to Clarity
The second key to becoming a GREAT public speaker is your ability to create clear, concise and exciting content. Again, I can show you how.
Most people are surprised to learn that a speech is not a written document. It’s a spoken document (like a musical score) that happens to be sitting, temporarily on the page. As such, it’s much more like the transcript of a conversation, or the “book” for a Broadway musical, than it is like a college essay.
If you don’t know how to write a speech, don’t worry. I can work with you to write one that’s perfect for your style… or edit a draft you’ve already created… or show you how to write your own. I can do this because, for more than 15 years, I made my living as a corporate speechwriter in the demanding and highly technical area of pharmaceutical sales. I know how to organize information, create exciting analogies, and make ideas of any complexity sound simple, natural, and compelling. I also know how to create a rhythm that pulls audiences along — and will show you how to do the same thing.
Public Speaking Skills: Practice Makes Perfect (But Only If You Practice Right)
The final key to GREAT public speaking is the ability improve through practice. This means not just practicing, but practicing in a way that will deliver cumulative, long-term results. I can show you how to practice, what to practice, and how to avoid the pitfalls that have given practicing such a bad name. You may never love practicing — but you will love what it does for your public speaking skills when you’ve learned how to use it effectively.
