Nice Work if You Can Get It
People often ask me how I got my dream job of helping others communicate.
The truth is, I created Speak Up for Success out of a patchwork quilt of experiences and skills that somehow came together in this perfect occupation.
Before founding the company, I was a Fortune 500 speechwriter, working mainly in the pharmaceutical industry. But before that, I was a jazz singer and bandleader (I’m a proud graduate of New England Conservatory of Music), and supported my jazz habit by working as a secretary, a word processing trainer, a house cleaner, an accounts receivable clerk at J.C. Penney’s, a singing waitress, an overnight typist at the Brooklyn Supreme Court (typing murder trial transcripts), and other jobs too numerous to mention.
The things that most inform my coaching are: My performance background; my own keynote speaking; my training as a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) consultant; and having been a mother (be clear! stand your ground!) and a bartender (the world’s best training in crowd control).
